THE MEANING OF "CIDF"

"C" is for "co-operation", and I really do mean "CO-OPERATION". We need to co-operate widely and effectively, at the government level, at the department and agency level and between the various levels.

Most importantly a high level of co-operation is required between individuals, the humans. Without YOUR co-operation the job may not get done. What can you offer to OPERATION AUSSIES HOME? Please put it on the table.

"F" is for "foresight". In the business of body recovery, where there are so many unknowns, foresight is necessary. We need to look ahead and anticipate the wildest scenarios, as well as the most likely ones, and evaluate their probability. If they are assessed as probable, consideration should be given to suitable counter-measures. Foresight requires that we act now, because to-morrow your brilliant thinking without action will be mere hindsight. There will be resouce implications.

The best example that springs to my mind right now is that a little foresight would indicate that we should collect mtDNA samples from the maternal relatives of our missing men. These samples would then be available to cater for possible partial recoveries where traditional methods of identification may not be adequate.
