JCRC REPORT OF INTERVIEW WITH A VIETNAMESE REFUGEE IN NOVEMBER 1984

PAGE 1

This gives the JCRC staffs understanding of the case based on their reading in late 1984. Note the reference to an Australian recovery team visiting the crash site in August 1971 and seeing a charred body which was not recovered. This is a corruption of the facts contained in the earlier JCRC Biographical Site Report of 20 Mar 79 at Folio 190. Note the position of the full stop after"but the body was not recovered." It was the rallier who visited the site in August, not the Australian recovery team according to the 1979 detail. As discussed at Folio 190, the "ground rescue team" that visited the site was most likely WO Les Maher and party who went there on 18 Apr 71 to collect the bodies of Blackhurst and Albertson.

This report by refugee in November 1984 indicates that the frame of the aircraft was visible from 40 meters when he, as an 17 or 18 YOA student, visited the area with his cousin "sometime in 1981." The assumption that the wreck had been "stripped" was obviously made since the person giving the information was not aware that the aircraft had been gutted by fire, with the possibility that any surviving portions (although evidence indicates that these would have been minimal) could have also been removed.
